  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I developed my leadership and organisational skills. My leadership skills improved through taking on ambitious tasks and using my own skills and means to execute them. My organisational skills through formulating a project vision, sequencing the process into a series of actionable steps and then executing them. I also learned about my expectation management skills by making managers aware of realistic timeframes I could get tasks done and prioritising more urgent tasks.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given some very challenging and tasks which had tangible team benefits at stake. I was set a project which had good impact. There were limits to how much I could be given but these were natural for someone who only has 10 weeks there.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was very well supported with a trio of people I could reach out to as well as a very co-operative and supportive team. When I did something wrong they were constructive in their feedback. When I delivered in my tasks, they didn't hesitate to thank me and congratulate me. I felt very much part of the team and was given a generous level of exposure to important projects.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and atmosphere was a delight to be in. It was a focused and productive environment which had a very warm feel to it. People, no matter how senior, would always make time to talk to you if you reached out to them, and everyone's personal wellbeing was highly valued and respected. Treasury and Trade Solutions' amazing financial results is testament to the working environment that has been built.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience was challenging at times, often messy in parts, but completely rewarding. By the end myself and fellow interns felt a great sense of achievement. We operated in a very flat structure and we felt very connected and in the loop about the main company wide items on the agenda.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Citi
  • In the application process. Really try and understand what Treasury and Trade Solutions is. Try and get a grasp of what matters to corporate treasurers around the world and how changes in macro economic headwinds and tailwinds impact that. Network with people on LinkedIn. Be rigorous in your interview preparation and don't worry if you get rejected. Just focus on learning lessons for your next application.
