Technical Annual Placement Review

Worked as a data scientist in the advanced analytics team in the heavy end technical. Role involved performing large scale data analysis in python and creating machine learning models to find solutions to difficult problems. Role also involved working alongside area professionals to develop a more thorough understanding of steel making, which in turn made understanding the model outcomes easier.

Throughout my year I developed a very good understanding of steel making as well as improved some of my technical skills. Specifically my coding skills were the most improved which I am now much more confident in. My presenting skills have also hugely improved due to hosting biweekly project meetings and daily DSUMs as well as entering a lecture competition. Other skills developed include: team working, communication, leadership skills, time management and many more.

I was given the project lead on my very first project at the company. I felt that I was given a lot of responsibility throughout my placement and I was trusted to complete my work to a high standard. However, alongside being given this responsibility I was also provided with help and support whenever I felt I needed it.

I felt I received plenty of support and guidance during my placement.

The company culture and atmosphere was always extremely welcoming and I had a very positive experience with everyone I met during my year.

I really enjoyed my placement, including the work I was doing and all the people I met during my year.
