Overview
Day-to-day, my role involves using data to provide visualisations and analyses within the Network Strategy and Engineering wider team. I have been involved in a variety of projects including looking at crowdsourced data (data from measurements taken by users' phones) and producing maps. A lot of the work is given directly by my manager but there have been times when I've worked with external teams.
Skills
I have learnt to use SQL to query databases and get the required data. Learned about the limitations of real-world data and ways of dealing with missing or incomplete data. Also massively developed my skills in R, learning how to create maps and different ways of producing graphs. In addition, I have learnt to apply better practices when coding. Improved communication skills within a working environment. Improved self-management.
Responsibilities
I've been given responsibility of making visualisations to be presented to others
Support & Guidance
Plenty of support and guidance - have weekly one-to-one meetings with my manager as well as an intern buddy, and then regular meetings with a mentor as well. They have been great at encouraging me to get in touch if I have any questions or concerns. I also have had a variety of training sessions which have been helpful.
Culture
Very positive and friendly atmosphere, people are more than happy to help out and be supportive if there are any issues. It is made sure that we maintain a healthy work/life balance and there is a strong emphasis on personal development.
Your Impressions
I'm enjoying it a lot - it's a good variety of engaging work, the environment is very positive, and I have a good work-life balance.
