Overview
Undertaking a research project in the field of cancer research. Day to day I plan and run my own experiments with the support of my supervisors, and analyse the data to be able to present it in lab meetings.
Skills
I have learned many new skills, especially more advanced lab techniques that go beyond my undergraduate teaching. I am also gaining proficiency in data analysis which is invaluable in the scientific field. I am also gaining strong interpersonal and communication skills through regular team meetings and discussions.
Responsibilities
I am given a very balanced level of responsibility. I am encouraged to take initiative for my learning and growth, but I am always supported with any needs or concerns that may arise.
Support & Guidance
I received incredible mentorship from my supervisors. They were incredibly supportive and patient throughout the process. They never put any pressure or stress on me, and always created an environment that promoted learning and growth.
Culture
The atmosphere is very friendly. Everyone was welcoming and supportive.
Your Impressions
Doing a placement was the best decision I have ever made in relation to my professional development. It enabled me to grow in a vast number of different settings, and has equipped me with the confidence and skills to go on to work in scientific research in the future.
