Overview
On a day-to-day basis, my main role is coordinating with our factories and suppliers to ensure that corporate identity implementations happen smoothly across all brands. I also answer any corporate identity queries that come in from the network and update our trackers that get sent out to a variety of stakeholders. As an undergraduate at VWG, I take part in the Inspire project which is a fun way to get involved with the local community.
Skills
Over the last 5 months I have developed my existing communication skills, I have achieved this by having regular communications with varying levels of management across the brands and factories. I have also developed my management skills, my role involves managing our external design team for one of the brands and i also take the lead on regular meetings with external stakeholders such as suppliers.
Responsibilities
Being responsible is a key part of my role. I have been proactive in my day-to-day role which has meant within the first five months I have been given the chance to lead meetings and speak directly to key personnel within VWG UK and also the parent factories. I have also been given a huge amount of responsibility but being able to lead key projects in hospitality and diversity & inclusion.
Support & Guidance
I have been very lucky to have such a supportive team who have given me training and guidance in every area I have needed. I am able to dedicate some time each week to personal development and training, I've been able to access a variety of training courses through LinkedIn Learning and also through VWG.
Culture
VWG is a very supporting company who allows people to be themselves. We have a clear company culture which can be seen on every level of the business.
Your Impressions
I am only 5 months in but I have loved my placement so far. My role allows me to visit the retailer network across the UK. Being part of such a large undergraduate cohort has meant that we have a great social environment with a lot of us relocating to Milton Keynes. My wider team has been great and I have been given opportunities to attend multiple off site team bonding events.
Yes
Be yourself! VWG welcomes everyone to work here. You don't have to know everything about cars to work here. If you get a job here my top tip would be to be proactive, there's so many different opportunities for you to get involved in which aren't part of your day-to-day role.
