Overview
Monitoring and responding to incidents and requests relating to the Cloud Platform. Users of the Cloud Platform will either raise a support ticket or communicate their issue/request via email or Slack.
Skills
I've built on the foundational knowledge I gained at university and have learned many new skills and new technologies such as: Linux, Kubernetes/Openshift, AWS, Terraform, Jenkins, Python, YAML.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was treated the same as any other employee and was given a high level of responsibility (e.g. managing production environments) from a very early stage.
Support & Guidance
Throughout the placement I had many mentors within the team, they would allow me to shadow their work as well as walk me through and teach me how to operate new technologies and services. I was also provided with access to online learning platforms and enabled to spend time studying these - this allowed me to gain the achievement Certified AWS Cloud Practitioner.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was overall very positive, everyone I interacted with were friendly and always interested in my placement and how I was getting on. I also had the opportunity to visit the Bristol office during my placement and the same friendly and positive atmosphere was found there.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, it was both challenging and rewarding as every day I learned something new and/or got to interact with a new technology. Being treated as an equal within the team made a huge difference to my experience as there were very few times where I felt like placement student which I believe contributed a lot to feeling comfortable and accepted in the team and company overall.
Yes
Understand the service the company provides to its customers and also the company values that MO holds it's employees to. It's very important to MO that it's employees are aligned with their values and also are passionate about the work they do, as this inevitably will carry over to the quality of work you do on a day-to-day basis.
