Overview
The Insight Programme was three days long. We were exposed to group project work; Q&A panels with bankers; networking events; and technical training. Day one was aimed at getting to know our peers; day two was mainly technical training and project preparation; and the final day was presentation day followed by a networking lunch and evening event.
Skills
I developed my technical skills extensively and had the opportunity to strengthen my networking, communication and general people skills.
Business Insight
Being able to see behind the scenes and spend time with my buddy in healthcare was invaluable. I personally learnt that there are areas of M&A which can be specific to anything and anyone. My degree is related to health, so having a buddy in healthcare was eye-opening and taught me that financial advisory isn't defined by valuation alone!
Culture
The culture at Lazard is incredibly inclusive. As a spring intern at the bottom of the pile it would have been easy to feel like a very small fish in a huge pond but every employee I encountered genuinely tried to enhance my experience. At no point did I feel awkward or in the way and it really felt like everyone who works at the firm who we interacted with were genuinely invested in us.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme. I went from being apprehensive to enter the office to having made some great friends in my cohort for the Summer Internship in 2023. The icebreaking events were great to help us get to know each other and get stuck in. The insights that I learned from the programme were also invaluable and being stimulated and engaged for the entire time was really enjoyable!
Yes
I would advise people to genuinely be themselves in interview and in the office. At Lazard all minds and ways of thinking are valued so if anyone was anxious about not having a mathematical or economic/ finance based degree I would encourage them not to worry!
