Overview
I was the point of contact for various external stakeholders and managed their accounts with unilever. This consisted of daily number checks of how our business was doing in that account, driving the business by creating promo plans with the customers and introducing new products into their stores. I also got involved in creative products and launched brand new products specifically for my accounts.
Skills
I learned lots of new skills including how to use spreadsheets and read and extract data from them. I developed professional communication and presentation skills. I was able to grow in confidence when taking part in project management tasks.
Responsibilities
From day one I was given a huge amount of responsibility and my role was never treated as anything below the other workers there. I managed 2 accounts and was the main point of contact for external contacts.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot form my line manager but in terms of overall and company wide training there was minimal preparation / support in the first months.
Culture
Amazing. Unilever had a great culture and treated their workers very well and always put us first in terms of mental health and private life.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the social aspect of it but realised after that it is not an industry (FMCG) that I want to go into in the future.
Yes
Make sure you know what you’re getting into. It is a lot of responsibility so you have to be prepared for that. Also apply yourself and out in the effort to learn otherwise the experience won’t be made the most of.
