Overview
I was a delivery resource manager intern which required me to go to triage in the morning in which we would go through our incoming request queue and note down actions for each one. Throughout the day I would action any tasks that need to be done on the new requests and follow up on any outstanding requests. I would also have to complete maintenance requests which would be adjusting dates or hours on requests for existing projects.
Skills
I have learnt many new skills and developed multiple skills throughout my internship. For example I was able to develop my time management skills as I had to learn how to prioritise tasks through the day and week and make sure they were all completed to a high standard. I was also able to develop my public speaking skills as I would have to lead on multiple different calls each week related to my role.
Responsibilities
I was given more responsibility on my placement than I expected to receive in such an important company as Microsoft. I was given my own tasks and projects to handle as an intern which I was the primary on and that I was solely responsible for. This was not just in my role, but on external projects as well. I was approached to take on extra responsibility outside my core role which I took in happily.
Support & Guidance
I received a substantial mount of support and guidance throughout my placement. When I first started I was assigned a buddy who was a previous intern in the same role who helped me settle into the role quickly. Afterwards I had an extremely supportive manager who helped me whenever I needed and helped towards my personal development. I was also lucky enough to have multiple other mentors throughout the year, all in different roles and areas.
Culture
Microsoft has an incredible culture and atmosphere, their culture is extremely inclusive and friendly that welcomes everyone. The general atmosphere is very welcoming and fun and is something that everyone wants to be around. I have never worked for a company with the same culture, one that empowers everyone to be their best and is lol about helping each other.
Your Impressions
I extremely enjoyed my placement at Microsoft, it was an incredible experience which I would highly recommend to anyone considering it. I had a great experience in the job role and appreciated all of the help and guidance I received throughout the year. I also loved the opportunity to network and meet a lot of new people, all with advice to give and time to spend talking to you. I also appreciated all of the different extra opportunities to take part in alongside my core role.
Yes
I would advise others to just be themselves as they want to see the real you in interviews. Everyone appreciates honesty and openness and wants to see if you would fit in the culture centred around empowering everyone around us. I would also advise to speak up about your achievements as you are your own cheerleader in those interviews and they want to listen.
