    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A deeply varied role working with a variety of clients and customers. Some days could be spent in the office working on things such as land referencing, highway searches, compensation claims, serving notices etc. Or other days you could be out on site visits, completing work over surveys and liaising with land owners and clients.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Many existing skills have been further developed in this experience such as communication both face to face but also over the phone. Technical skills in relation to data bases such as Land Registry and internal FG systems. Different projects required different approaches such as more teamwork or more independent work. Some projects such as Hynet are very fast-paced environments so the ability to adapt my approach to different projects was further developed.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, from day one you were given responsibility but never in a way that you felt overloaded. Everyone in the company is extremely approachable and wanting to help; therefore, the responsibility was never intimating, and I always felt well prepared to deal with it.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Fisher German is renowned for being a company that puts its people first and selects employees not just for their experiences but for their values and qualities. This was greatly identifiably from the people I met and worked with at FG during my placement. Not only from the Stafford Office but from the people I met in other offices and divisions also. An extremely welcoming company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement very much. I was very fortunate to see so much in my 12 weeks, such as the Infrastructure and Utilities division Away Day at Drayton Manor and the CAAV training day - where I was able to meet colleagues from different offices and divisions. In the Stafford office itself, I was able to work with almost every person in the office on different schemes and projects. A very varied experience!

  • 7. Would you recommend Fisher German to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Fisher German
  • If - like in my case - you are from a non-cognate background (non RICS accredited degree), consider how your extra-curricular activities (such as part-time jobs, societies at uni etc) make you a well round individual. FG are not too worried about the technical skills as that's something they can teach you. So consider your personal abilities such as communication, adaptability, interpersonal skills. If you're a people-person, this may be the job for you!
