Overview
On a daily basis we had sessions with bankers from across Lazards business lines. These sessions were supplemented by case study discussions taken by bankers regarding their previous transactions. We also had technical training sessions surrounding various financial modelling and valuation methods. Additionally we were asked to work on an extremely comprehensive group project through the three days and pitch to an associate / VP on the final day.
Skills
My technical knowledge went up tenfold. We had great sessions about how various valuation methodologies worked, the basics of building a DCF and analysing compelling cases from the industry. In addition to technical skills, the programme allowed me to enhance my interpersonal, collaboration within groups and communication presenting to large groups, making for a highly enriching experience.
Business Insight
It was fantastic. They were extremely clear and transparent about what they were looking for and how they were going to go about filling those roles. We were introduced to plenty of bankers from various product and industry lines to give us a better idea of those that had been through the process themselves.
Culture
The company culture was quite open and friendly while at the same time being extremely professional. Everyone around was genuinely interested in the interns' development and were ever-ready to offer their help if called on. Everyone, right from analysts to the CEO of UK Investment Banking himself were extremely approachable.
Your Impressions
This was easily the best spring insight event I attended. It was the perfect mix of theoretical information sessions and practical on the job experience provided while providing plenty of exposure to the firm's bankers and culture.
Yes
If there's any bank that cares about their culture, it's Lazard and that shows what the office has shaped up to be over the years. When applying you need to be sure that their high calibre, high performance, yet open environment is the kind you thrive in, and figure out the best way of getting that across.
