Overview
I interned in the Real Estate M&A advisory team which involved supporting analysts and associates in their day-to-day tasks by providing research insights, formatting slide decks and organising Excel models. Our team had daily morning meetings to check in on progress made on each deal and facilitate open strategy discussions.
Skills
I developed my PowerPoint and Excel skills, improved my attention to detail and learnt to locate and pull information quickly and accurately from the right sources available online.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was wholly responsible for my work which was passed on to the analysts and associates with whom I was working. I was encouraged to ask questions and learn from what others were working on, and I was fortunate enough to attend a client meeting and send out notes taken to update the team.
Support & Guidance
The HR team organised facilitated regular check-ins through organising activities for the interns, and I was assigned a team buddy, a senior mentor in a different team, and a summer internship captain who all provided great support on the job. During the academic year prior to the summer internship, I was given a mentor with whom I had regular calls to learn more about Lazard's culture and business.
Culture
Very supportive and collegiate atmosphere of hard-working people who recognised and rewarded the value their colleagues contributed.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed it - from the technical skills I gained, to the insight I was given into how the team conducted business and strategised which market opportunities to pursue, I came away gaining in many more areas than I anticipated. It surpassed my expectations.

Reseach as much about Lazard as you can online and try to speak to someone currently working in the office. Understand Lazard's differentiated offering and its competitive advantage over peer advisory boutiques. Keep up with macro and geopolitical developments so you're aware of how their business can position itself for opportunities in the future.
