Overview
On the first 3 days, I attended all of the talks and did my best to contribute in workshops and ask questions. Then I did my best to complete tasks set by my supervisor. I thought that it was a really accessible scheme and that I was able to come in a non-law student without much knowledge. I learned a huge amount about practicing law, both in terms of skills and knowledge.
Skills
Yes, definitely. I learned lots more about the processes of practicing law like reviewing contracts and some of the key skills such as client communication. I also learned about different types of communication and interaction within the workplace. I thought that the scheme was great at setting expectations and teaching new skills and then giving opportunities to practice them within the workspace.
Business Insight
It was really useful, I felt that the scheme gave me a hugely better understanding of how the firm worked and made me really want to be a part of their work.
Culture
It was really good, I felt very supported throughout. Every person I met at the scheme was lovely and helpful, and my supervisor was particularly great and made me feel very confident to try my best with my work. I felt completely confident that if I had any problems I could bring them to the firm and I would receive help, and it made me feel that I would be really happy working there.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it, I was very nervous before I started but I came away with a really positive impression and would have been happy if the scheme went on for longer, especially the work shadowing which was my favourite part.
Yes
I would say the most important thing is to research the firm carefully and ensure that you understand fully its work, culture and how the firm functions as a business. It's great to meet lawyers from the firm and get an idea of what they like about the firm. I would also advise completing some of the firm's Global Virtual Internships on Forage, as a great way to get to know their work.
