Overview
Run over two days, the First-year Insight Scheme offered me a strong insight into how an international, elite law firm like Baker McKenzie operates. I was able to attend structured sessions as part of the scheme, which introduced me to the various practices and areas of work that Baker McKenzie engages in. One key part was being allocated a trainee solicitor to shadow and learn a variety of skills and knowledge from.
Skills
Over the two days, I was able to develop my commercial awareness and understanding of what being a Trainee Solicitor entails. By working with the group and graduate recruitment team through a series of tasks and interactive workshops, I also built up many core skills I need to succeed in the role of a trainee solicitor at such a leading law firm, such as teamwork and communication
Business Insight
The First-year Insight Scheme offered me a strong insight the various practices and industries of work that Baker McKenzie engages in, and this included learning about the roles available such as a trainee solicitor.
Culture
The culture was very friendly and open - I felt very comfortable at all times and particularly felt that the graduate recruitment team made a great effort to incorporate me into the scheme. It was also very diverse and meritocratic.
