Overview
The insight programme took place over a three day period. We collaborated in groups to form a stock pitch, shadowed bankers from different sectors to gain real-life experience, attended presentations from working professionals about their role and experience within Lazard and additionally received on-the-job training whilst being exposed to our 'Buddys'. Lazard provided the opportunity to meet likeminded individuals and I gained exposure into the dynamic financial industry.
Skills
I have developed my communication skills, as I have learnt how to not only share my views but really listen and cherish the views of others around me. Additionally, I have learnt to communicate my time ability in this same communication respect, as I now know how to handle situations calmly when faced with multiple tasks; the best way being to keep people informed of your workload and thus this can balance expectations.
Business Insight
It was incredible to see first hand how many different sector and product teams there are within Lazard. Additionally I got to learn about the culture that each of these teams possesses, equipping me with tools I'll need going forward into this role. I gained a strong insight into the culture and environment at Lazard such as through their affinity networks and team working environment. Lazard's culture of inclusion and teamwork was portrayed throughout the week.
Culture
The culture was inclusive and collaborative across the entire 3 days. Being a relatively small firm appealed to me as the strong bond and relationships between the employees was visible throughout. It was a driven and hardworking environment in which everyone on a team contributed towards all tasks. The company was inclusive and dynamic, as shown in their affinity networks such as Lazard's Womens Network and Lazard Proud, just two examples of these groups.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the hardworking atmosphere of the insight as although there were times which seemed challenging, having likeminded people work hard along side me motivated me to do well. Additionally, I loved bouncing ideas off of each other within our own internship cohort, and it was great to see that all interns came from a variety of degree backgrounds and ethical backgrounds as this sparked collaboration.
Yes
I would strongly encourage anyone interested in Finance to apply to Lazard as they nurtured and developed our skills from even before the Spring Insight week and will continue to do so up to my Summer Internship. There is a great support network available within Lazard's firm such as your mentor, buddy or even HR; they are all willing to help at any time. Advice id give would be to try and immerse yourself fully into the programme by asking lots of questions and connecting/chatting to bankers as this is where you will gain invaluable knowledge.
