    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Often depends on the team, I was given a bigger role on my own projects but this was only after a few weeks working there. It felt like it depended on the work going around that team and who your manager was.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 4/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • - Weekly meetings with the early careers leader to go over any cohort issues (e.g. safety) and to ask individual questions - Access to internal learning platforms, including Linkedin Learning - My manager was very approachable, but again this could change depending how busy they are. I did hear a few horror stories of interns being left out to dry, but often they found another intern or coworker to lean on.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • - Everybody was very chilled out while also trying to get the job done - Watching some of the things going on the site was pretty cool. - Our cohort was amazing, everybody got on well and we were going out every Friday, Saturday night. I'm not sure how other cohorts were - Some teams were 100% remote however, and I felt these people missed out on part of the experience

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Once my internship got going, I enjoyed the work I was given and would say overall it was a good experience. However, due to company bureaucracy it took a couple weeks to get there. For such a large company, the experience can be quite variable. Year placement students can change departments every three months if they don't like it.

  • 7. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems
  • - Do your research, *some* interviewers are good at catching people out if they mention certain products (*cough* tempest) without prior research. It can make your interview super awkward - Know how to answer competency based questions like the back of your hand. Write out some experiences to refer to during the interview. Your interview is likely to be 99% competency questions. - Technical questions are typically trivia around the subject you're studying. - Apply sooner rather than later, the company is hiring like mad currently but I'm not sure how long this could last.
