Overview
I had the opportunity to undergo 3 rotations which lasted 3 weeks each. The jobs per desk varied depending on what the team had planned. Majority of the day was spent sitting with different members of the team and getting to know their product.
Skills
At the end of each rotation, we were given the task to present a trade idea. This made me really improve my presenting skills and helped me discover different features of Bloomberg to back up arguments and opinions in my trade idea.
Responsibilities
Given the nature of the role, we were not able to actually trade or speak to clients as we need to pass exams before being able to do this. However, some of the tasks I was given consisted of creating/updating spreadsheets that were used by the team every day.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of guidance not just from junior members but also managers and MDs. The flat structure of the firm meant I could explore more than just the desk I was rotating on and get to figure out what team suited me best. Everyone was very open with their own experiences and gave a lot of insight into a life in this career.
Culture
It is a great place to work! I did not have a single negative experience despite the nature of the trading floor everyone was open to go for coffee or have a chat at the desk.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship experience and felt I was open to so many different opportunities that I could really make the most of all the resources and expertise at the firm.
Yes
I think your CV gives a first impression so do make sure you have some extracurricular activities and interest in markets! During interviews keep up with market affairs and have an opinion on what has happened and your predictions going forward.
