Analyst Support Review

My role involved keeping all the internal systems up to date, creating slides for a marketing pitch and modelling for projects. Day to day, I would be mostly using Excel and PowerPoint, and would be carrying out analysis ranging from transaction comparables to merger models. A large part of the role involved speaking to many stakeholders: colleagues, seniors in the team, clients, advisors, executive assistants and many more.

My organisation skills and the ability to multi-task had improved incredibly. A lot of my technical skills I had learnt on the job, especially navigating through Excel using many shortcuts and then modelling techniques. My technicals weren’t very strong when joining but by the end of the placement, I felt very confident with the new technical skills gained.

I was very impressed with Lazard on how much responsibility they really do give to the interns. I was given a merger model to run in my first month and by the second month I was involved in a very important pitch to a CEO at his house. The team are very trusting and will give more and more responsibility as you profess but will also be very helpful if you are stuck.

We were given tasks to complete on our own but were always welcome to ask questions. Questions were always answered and the team members, no matter how busy, would always take time to explain concepts.

The company culture is genuinely outstanding. In a very fast-paced and highly pressured environment, you would expect things to go bitter but with Lazard this is not the case. Lazard was exceptional in creating a great team culture and keeping the environment non-heirarchal. I could trust all team members and will very much be missing them, because they become like family by the end.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the internship and was thankful for all the learnings, experience, laughs and memories. Even when hours got long or times got stressful, the team members would always bring a smile to my face and bring the morale up. The great atmosphere encouraged me to always make it into the office despite a flexible work from home option.

It is all about the effort you put in. At every stage of the application process, put your 100% effort in. Take time to talk to others who have already been in that position, make sure you prepare well for the video interviews and interviews, but most of all don’t lose your personality. Bring your personality in and be yourself and Lazard will love it!
