Overview
- attended interviews from employees of different sector and product teams, which was useful in seeing what the bigger picture aspects of their jobs were that were specialized to the teams that they were in. - shadowed my 'analyst buddy', who showed me the work that she does on her sector team. - completed a group project involving an analysis of a particular company, working with other insight participants and being mentored by a full-time analyst.
Skills
Yes! I received some technical training. I also developed my general communication and networking skills. I learned to work in teams with people that I was unfamiliar with and in a short time frame to deliver a final presentation. Finally, I learned about what the investment banking and particularly M&A industry is like from the inside, which was fascinating.
Business Insight
Lazard provided numerous opportunities to understand the business, bringing in employees from all positions (analyst to managing director) to speak with us. It was also very useful to hear from full time employees who had previously been spring interns and what their experience was like. Finally, I thought it was helpful to hear from different sector and product teams to understand how teams work separately and together.
Culture
The company culture was very inclusive, open, and friendly, which I loved. I was initially quite intimidated by the prospect of interacting with bankers and doing a group presentation for a banker, but the entire experience ended up being much less stressful and more enjoyable than I had thought it would be. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], especially, did a wonderful job at making us all feel comfortable, and I really appreciated that.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it! I came in with little to no knowledge about investment banking (my knowledge mostly came from independent research beforehand), and I thought it was incredible to be able to spend a few days at Lazard and get an inside look at how the company runs and what people do. I enjoyed the wide variety of activities that were planned for us - it made the days always exciting and interesting!
Yes
I would say to be yourself, and to not worry about lacking technical knowledge. Lazard is amazing in that they teach you everything that you need to know and value interest and learning potential above what we already know. As a non-finance student, that made me feel really comfortable, and also reassured that Lazard was interested in me as a person and my growth.
