Overview
The day started off with an introduction to the firm by graduate recruitment, followed by deep dive into the firm's transactional and disputes practices which were led by a partner and an associate working in a team in the area. There was also a trainee Q&A, as well as application tips session. Finally, there was a commercial awareness group exercise.
Skills
It was a great opportunity to engage with the firm in an interactive manner and network with the lawyers and graduate recruitment. There was also a unique opportunity to develop my presentation and team-working skills through the group exercise.
Business Insight
The event gave a good overview of the positions that are available for aspiring trainees and provided helpful tips on how to put your best foot forward. It also gave an insightful short-stop tour over the key practice areas and pro-bono work that the firm does so the attendees really got a full-picture understanding of the firm.
Culture
Extremely friendly and collaborative. Even with the partners, it seemed that everyone was genuinely interested in sharing their knowledge and experiences, as well as really happy to take on any questions.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it, although I wish it was longer so we could learn about the different practice areas in greater depth! However, I understand that the lawyers are incredibly busy and nevertheless I am really grateful that they took the time out of their day to speak to us and answer as many questions as they could.
Yes
Be confident and proactive! Even if the firm does incredible, big-ticket deals, it's a very friendly firm that really values your insights so don't be shy to show your best self.
