Overview
My day to day tasks usually involved completing a piece of research and then structuring this into a client-facing note. Other tasks involved listening in on and taking notes in client meetings, getting the opportunity to go to court and attending presentations about different areas of work available at the firm.
Skills
I think a really valuable skill that I learnt through the vacation scheme is the ability to convert cryptic, esoteric knowledge into an accessible, digestible format. Other skills learnt were how to remain professional in all environments and how refining my verbal and written communication skills
Business Insight
It was really valuable to meet people at all levels of the firm and to hear about their work. Everyone was more than happy to give me their time, and to ask about my experience on the vac scheme. I feel like I now have a holistic understanding of the firm and their client portfolio.
Culture
The company culture is probably the thing that impressed me the most. Even people very senior in the firm (who were obviously very busy) were more than happy to give me their time. I think this ethos is evident at all levels/
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight into the firm. It was been perfectly balanced between formal work, informal networking and meeting new people. Over the past 2 weeks, the firm has really put an investment in me, and I hope to return this investment.
Yes
For the assessment centre, I would recommend the friend brushes up on their commercial awareness and does practice exercises on comprehending FT articles. For the vac scheme, I would recommend that they just try to enjoy it and make the most of all the opportunities available.
