Overview
I would come in daily at 9am and check my calendar first. We would usually talk to out supervisors about any pending or new tasks and sort through our deadlines and respective schedules. If there were any staff meetings or client calls, I would be made privy to that as I shared an office with my supervisor. Apart from completing written tasks, which required analyzing loan documentations, partnership agreements, checking the Companies House and other registers in order to help research and draft client memos or know-how documents for internal distribution, we would attend presentations given by the firm's various departments. Usually lunch was provided at these events and they provided a great networking opportunity. Some evening we would have socials booked, such as pizza-making.
Skills
I have developed my technical legal knowledge, attention to detail and soft/people skills.
Business Insight
It was easy to understand all about the business and potential roles available, as well as their start date because the firm is transparent through their presentations about the business strategy they pursue. The journey to getting a training contract and starting training at the firm is also thoroughly laid out.
Culture
The firm had very flat structures in the sense that I felt no hierarchy within departments. Senior Associates and Partners alike have a very much open-door policy, are friendly and make you feel included.
Your Impressions
The insight was an invaluable experience. It thought me the most that a person could be thought within two weeks about an organisation.
Yes
It is necessary to brush up on your technical knowledge for the assessment centre (such as contract law, corporate, property concepts) and being aware of topical issues in the news. As far as the initial application process is concerned, I would recommend when being asked about interests to consider the things one likes that would set them apart from the crowd (aspects which genuinely interest you and you can uniquely relate back to your person)
