Placement Student Review

The role varies each day depending on the work within the department usually different research tasks, bundling documents. Each day features a great deal of time management and organisation to help in any way possible.

I have learnt quite a lot through different trainings but especially have developed my writing ability and research skills, I feel I can present information a lot more succinctly and clearly.

Yes on a daily basis I am given a good amount of responsibility, the best part of this is that it comes at different levels and sometimes it can be seen as freedom on smaller tasks which is nice and sometimes on larger tasks which helps push me to be better.

My supervisor is great and constantly checks on in me on a daily basis, we have frequent chats about how I am getting on and have had a couple of more formal feedback sessions to discuss my aspirations for the year. I have also had chats with the emerging talent team in regards to my progress and how I am finding it. The trainees are also a great support system and always help when they can.

It was amazingly nothing like I anticipated it to be. I expected people to be cold and unapproachable and it was the complete opposite. People were the reverse, approaching me to learn more about me and getting to know people in little conversations during the day and always inviting me to lunch and other social occasions to get to know people in my department and to help me widen my network.

So far I have really loved my placement. I always knew I wanted to be a solicitor but I thought a placement would be the best way to confirm this. My only regret is not being able to stay longer and having to go back to university to finish as I really love each day in the office and the work that is being done.

I would tell anyone to just be themselves, the firm is full of so many wonderful and different individuals, the team aren't looking for any one type of person and I think showing your personality is one of the best things you can do, the team will be your family and you want them to know the real you from the start.
