Overview
On a daily basis I get to create moodboards for the upcoming seasons and collections, create colour stories. I also have to work with Illustrator to create tech packs to send out to suppliers. There is a lot of team work involved since all the designs are decided among various teams in the department.
Skills
I learned a lot of technical software based skills such as creating industry level CADs, working with adobe programs. Since research is a big part of the job, I learned ways of researching, how to source the best imagery and create trend directions that would be clear for the buyers and merchandisers. I also developed my team work skills as well as presentation skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, during this placement I was given a lot of responsibility. I was looked at as a equal part of the team rather than a student intern. I feel like my opinion was valued and taken into account. My team was very considerate to give me interesting tasks to do but made sure not to overwhelm me.
Support & Guidance
I received a ton of support and guidance. My team quickly became like a family since I felt like I could fully trust them. They were willing to help me in every step and made sure that I understand all parts of the job. They took their time to teach me all the skills mentioned before.
Culture
The company culture is great. There are a lot of events happening in the company. In general, it seams like everyone is willing to help and support each other.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the placement a lot. I learned a lot of industry relevant and personal skills that I will be able to implement in my further career. I don't think I would have learned some of the skills if I worked in a smaller brand. Now I feel ready to move on and try different things but this placement was an excellent way to learn and experience my first job in the fashion industry.
Yes
Don't overthink anything you do and trust your instincts. Be sure to communicate your ideas clearly and be confident in anything you pitch or present.
