Overview
In this position on a daily basis, I was tasked with understanding more about the firm, and completing various tasks with new colleagues around me - some of whom I stayed friends with afterwards. There was a few business games, and tasks set which were all interesting and challenging, and based on real world examples. The day was well structured with lots of breaks and chances to ask questions. It was a good first introduction to Deloitte
Skills
I came into this with some good Maths and analysis skills generally. These I used more over the internship as there were questions and exercises that needed the use of numbers - as is seen in many areas of Deloitte. I think the main skill was transitioning from study to work, and to understand what the expectations of an employer like this is. And ultimately how to craft a successful career over time, with the firm.
Business Insight
I think this was the most valuable part. I have had an interest in using numbers and analysis in my career, which is why I looked at an accounting and tax firm like Deloitte to start my career. It was helpful to see how this overlaps in a work setting, using numbers and calculations, and also the software and databases available to compute your work. For me this is the main benefit of the experience.
Culture
The atmosphere was open, welcoming, comfortable. We were given chance to meet with the other participants, and i have stayed in contact with a few people who aren;t anywhere near my university, but we remained friends since. I think the culture in this experience was open and collaborative, not too individual focused, so that reflects well on the company also as it was apparent the staff seemed to enjoy their jobs and working with their colleagues
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship.. I would like to have experienced more, but I think at this stage in my university journey it is likely to be an exposure of days rather than weeks. I enjoyed the most the chance to meet with new friends, and discuss after the programme our interests and what we want to do next via whatsapp and social media. This has helped craft my career decisions as I progressed through uni
Yes
It is a good idea to apply if you are interested. It does seem a very popular employer and these types of programmes seem very over subscribed, and other employers I applied to didn't seem to continue my application and this could have put me off, but luckily i persevered with some others and I got a job. I think this was important as I could have been put off had something like this not come up.
