Overview
On a day to day basis I had the chance to listen from a range of high representatives to trainees at the firm explaining their area of practice and experience. After every talk we were given a break to converse with other attendees from the programme where food and drinks were provided. I also had the chance to participate in litigation simulation as well where we worked on a case to show our skills.
Skills
During my placement I learnt numerous skills incorporated in negotiation. I also heard from the recruitment officers talk about how future applicants could improve their CVs. I further improved my skills on networking where I met many different people from different universities as well as people who are currently working at DLA Piper.
Business Insight
It was amazing to hear about the firms business and potential roles available. Talking to the trainees palled a big role in helping me understand the type of works being done during their time at DLA Piper. It was also fascinating to hear about foreign and client secondments where we would be given an opportunity to work in a different environment to hone our skills in a particular area of law.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere seemed positive. From what I heard, the firm seemed to have a very strong work ethic. The trainees seemed very confident and proud of their work and the partners and associates seemed very approachable and easy to talk to. They all provided answers that satisfied the student cohort and had numerous programmes within the firm that advocated for inclusivity and diversity.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight programme. The information and talks the programme provided for me was beyond what I had imagined. All the speakers were captivating and allowed us sufficient time to ask questions. The interactive programmes allowed the attendees to incorporate some of our own creativity and knowledge to better acclimate ourselves into the firm's programme.
