The Role
Brilliant placement which enabled me to learn a lot about a large corporate business
I felt extremely valued by colleagues - there was never a time where I just thought I was 'the student'
My manager helped guide me and also pushed me to reach the best of my ability
Some days were busier than others - I was extremely busy during my project
I think more responsibility was given to me this year in comparison to previous IP students - but that was because I demonstrated I could work to a very high standard.
Although this perhaps is not the career I wish to follow, this year has provided me with a huge skill base.
The Company
We all worked together as a team really well. There were sometimes clashes, but that is to be expected.
There was no specific structure as its a very dynamic department, however I always felt like I had several things to be working on
I have been on several training courses, one course in particular was a week long training course in london, all expenses paid, so a brilliant company to invest in their employees.
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Although this sort of work would not be my first choice, I've had a brilliant year and would definately consider working for GSK again.
The Culture
Yes and no - there were a lot of students (117 of us!), however, because I was the only one in my department, I did feel a little isolated sometimes.
Because Stevenage is just outside of London, prices are much higher than the northern prices I'm used to, but it didn't feel too bad as I was on a wage.
The only club in Stevenage closed when I arrived although I wouldn't have gone anyway. The pubs are ok, but I wouldn't really want to go on a night out here.
To be honest, I didn't look that hard, but at the same time, I never noticed anything that really appealed to me, apart from the gym.
