Overview
The Insight Scheme involved talks from senior members of the firm regarding areas such as diversity, sustainability and more generally the firms practice itself. We also participated in a litigation and mediation simulation which helped me to further understand the day-to-day work that this area of the firm completed. We were also introduced us to trainees who would give their advice on the application process, the legal career and their thoughts on the firm.
Skills
As a non-law student, the opportunity to participate in a legal simulation was incredibly valuable because the experience highlighted the skills that are required to succeed in the profession, as well as the importance of communication and team work in completing the task. Furthermore, I learnt that the ability to utilise different approaches to a problem is vital because there is rarely one correct answer, and therefore the synthesis of ideas is usually optimal.
Business Insight
It was interesting to hear about the different approaches that the speakers took not only into the legal profession, but into the firm as well. This was very reassuring and useful considering that a lot of the candidates on the course were not doing a law degree.
Culture
I was very impressed by the general attitude of all of the trainees, partners and careers team who were all excited to welcome and teach us about the firm. The culture itself seems very impressive with various diversity networks and opportunities to network with your peers outside of the office.
Your Impressions
The scheme has really cemented my passion for the law, and subsequent desire to work for the firm. My peers were also kind, insightful and passionate about the scheme which helped to create a professional but relaxed environment for everyone involved.
Yes
I would recommend reaching out to the Early Careers Team for advice if you have a specific question, they are all incredibly helpful and have your best interests at heart.
