Overview
My role is in R&D, supporting early stage research for the development of medicines. This involves carrying out experiments, data analysis, presentations to lab groups etc.
Skills
Yes, I have developed my presentation as well as scientific writing skills. I have learnt new lab techniques and also increased my resilience and critical thinking.
Responsibilities
Yes, once you are competent in your lab work, you are given more independence and responsibility to carry out your experiments.
Support & Guidance
Anyone is willing to help. My manager and lab team have been incredibly supportive and really got me through the low points as well as celebrated my achievements.
Culture
The culture is collaborative, supportive and inclusive. Everyone is willing to help or talk to you and happy to teach you.
Your Impressions
I am absolutely loving it and can highly recommend applying! It is such a change to uni and academic research culture. You will learn so much more by working with experts directly and gain so many skills from the relationships with your team. The science is excellent and it is an incredible stepping stone career-wise.

Let your real you shine in your application. Make sure your values align with that of the company you are applying to, as this will ensure you are both a good fit and you will enjoy the culture, as it might slightly differ between companies.
