    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Researching and preparing macroeconomic research material to be used in committees with the board of directors (overview of inflation, unemployment, household income and how this is forecasted to develop & how this could affect the business) Handling of large data sets to analyse trends and track the company's performance. Occasionally these processes need updating or redesigning (which greatly improves your understanding of Excel) Some accounting related responsibilities on a weekly or monthly basis

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Lots of responsibility. There is definitely a culture at this company where the interns are doing quite important tasks I had ownership of several reports on varying basis (daily, weekly and monthly) Also was relied upon to provide the economic outlooks in the quarterly committees as well as for determining how much additional provisions the business will book in light of cost of living crisis etc

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • An exceptional amount. My team was very friendly and supportive and fostered a learning environment There were several people to turn to for support/guidance - my line manager, head of department and even HR. Also had catch ups with my line manager for ~1 hour most weeks where I could bring up anything or get help or ask questions I never once felt that support/guidance was lacking

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Overall I enjoyed it and learnt a great deal of technical and personal skills. Good amount of responsibility made the work more engaging and I definitely felt a valued member of the team, both of which may not be the same for all placements. There was also a degree of freedom/creativity in my role to alter my tasks where appropriate. The experience was a good insight into life after Uni and possible career paths.

  • Ask good questions where appropriate, this will generate genuine and thoughtful conversations in the interview and you'll get a better understanding of the company. As said previously there is a good culture for learning & development so make the most of this.
