Overview
1/3 - 2/3 lab work, involving a range of activities, generally unsupervised unless necessary, but people are always happy to help if needs be. The rest of the day is generally spent in meetings and writing up experiments etc.
Skills
Lab work skills have developed hugely, feel much more confident talking about my work. In addition, presenting in team meetings (~20 people) and chairing meetings has made me more confident in my presenting skills and ability to showcase my work.
Responsibilities
Yes, after initial training I was given several projects and tasks that were my responsibility over several weeks and months, with minimal supervision unless asked for. We are given plenty of responsibility and all the work is 'real' work useful to the company and projects.
Support & Guidance
Weekly meetings with my manager to update how things are going (not all projects and tasks are given directly by your manager, others in the team etc. will often ask for things to be done), plenty of support and access to help should it be necessary.
Culture
Very forward-thinking, motivated both by a desire to push the company forward monetarily and to push medicines out to those who need it. Culture is very supportive and encourages learning at all stages, not hierarchal with managers etc. being more respected than those 'lower' than them at all, it is very equal.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed, social aspect good too due to the number of placement students.
