Overview
As an IP Statistician for Ware, I mostly work as a statistical service for the Ware site. As part of the MSAT Statistics group, work can come in from other manufacturing sites as well. Most of our work will support the Product Lifecycle Management process, and we do this by producing statistical reports that generally feed into technical reports. On a day-to-day basis, statistical analysis work will be completed mostly in SAS or R.
Skills
During my time on my placement, I have developed my programming ability in both R and SAS (having not known SAS at all before placement). My statistical capability has been developed in techniques such as mixed effects models, linear regression, tolerance intervals, equivalence testing, Monte Carlo simulation. I have also developed my existing skills in report writing and presenting.
Responsibilities
I feel I am treated as an important and equal part of the team, often times being given a large amount of responsibility, but also with the support of my manager when needed. I believe the team have encouraged me to be ambitious with the work I take on.
Support & Guidance
It is easy to receive support from a wide range of fellow statisticians within the wider department. Everyone is friendly and approachable.
Culture
At GSK, it is clear that a large amount of effort is directed towards company culture. It is an incredibly positive experience, with a large focus on self development (plenty of opportunities available).
Your Impressions
I enjoy working within SAS and R on a day-to-day basis, completing statistical analysis and the IP community at my site and across the UK, is extensive and very active.
