Overview
My role within the company is to produce high level drawings based on what the client has asked for. Using software such as CAD on a daily basis I work alongside the rest of the architectural team and FG planners to design and produce barn conversions, new builds and a large variety of other projects. I also attend site visits for large projects, collecting data and measured surveys to then draw up and develop on when back in the office.
Skills
My skill set has been constantly growing while at FG. Both my skills in architecture and my skills as an individual person, with things such as confidence, professionalism and communication and team work within the work place. My architectural skills have been developing from the very first day I started, with each day bringing something new. Learning to be confident in the work I produce and the software I use has been an important goal set by the rest of the architectural team, with their on going help and team work I can easily say at the end of this placement I can leave knowing I have reached that goal and so much more!
Responsibilities
Once I found my feet and settled into the way FG work I was given a good amount of responsibility within the team to produce drawing packages and work to the clients requests. This made me recognise my full potential and realised I am capable and comfortable with theses responsibilities.
Support & Guidance
I was given support all the way through my placement. I couldn't fault it! the architectural team are smaller then most other divisions in FG, but that only meant I was that little bit more important when it came to being a team. I started at FG as a nervous and shy individual, but know I will leave having been apart of an amazing team who have been there to support me every step of the way, with their main priority being me coming out of this experience with confidence and drive for the future. I love FG as it really does feel like they care more about the person and the characteristics you have then of the skill set you join with.
Culture
FG constantly create a welcoming atmosphere, one that is including, team driven and fun based. at the start of the week people are calm, concentrating and the office is quite/peaceful, by the end of the week the office can be chatty, more upbeat and a little less professional with the chance to chat and mingle with others after a good weeks worth of hard work. It is always a lovely environment to be in, everyone is so keen to help others in the office, and no one feels left out or unseen which to me is so important both for you as an individual and for the business.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed every second while working for FG. It has pushed me out of my comfort zone massively while providing a safety net and reassurance that I am more then capable of reaching them goals. While learning to be apart of an incredible team and taking inspiration from those around me. It has been a challenge and a privilege to be apart of, and I would do it all over again.
Yes
My Advise, Simply be yourself! FG are all about who you are, and how you as a person would fit into the FG community. Don't be afraid to be different no two people are the same with the idea that each person brings something different to the table at FG, it is how the company's clock ticks over each person has a role to play. Let them know why you should be apart of that team everything else (skill sets) will develop/grow over time.
