The Role
It has been a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding year. I actively enjoy coming into work in the mornings!
From the start, I was made to feel very welcome. I work within a young(ish!) team and it is very friendly and great fun.
Thorough training was given (especially important when working in a lab) and development/training has continued over the course of the year.
Some days I have a lot to get through, other days things can seem to proceed very slowly, but I guess that is the nature of lab work. Time management is a key skill when planning experiments
I feel responsible and accountable for my work.
Within chemistry, having a year working in a professional lab during my degree is great for final year projects and a career within research.
The Company
Very fun, great banter to make it a good atmosphere to work
The external contracting company who we officially work for have been poor. Information was a bit hit and miss before starting placement.
Investment in traning was good at the start of the year. We atteneded a 4 days course in Bristol to train in the basic lab techniques that we will be using daily in our placement. However, since then we have not been "invested" in further
Sports and Social Club

Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Jobs within R&D are very hard to come by.
The Culture
A perfect social scene. There is roughly 100 placement students at my site, with constant activities planned within the groups for weekends etc. Could not have been better!
Reasonably price. Stevenage is fairly cheap, however being so close to London means that can quickly change at weekends!
A good laugh with the right people, London provides the best nightlife though.
Good opportunitys through work, eg 5 aside footy.
