Skills
I gained a great insight into the world of commercial law and particulate the work that Herbert Smith Freehills does. Additionally, I had the opportunity to experience the friendly culture of the firm firsthand, and this has led me to decide that I will apply to the firm for a vacation scheme next year.
Business Insight
It was highly interesting to find out more about the specific tasks undertaken by trainees in particular, as well as the skills required of a lawyers working at such an internationally renowned firm. The case which the investment disputes department was working on was particularly fascinating, as I learnt about the key challenges facing HSF’s solicitors in managing that high value case
Culture
All of the solicitors at the firm were extremely helpful and friendly. At the practice area fair, each and every person was eager to answer my questions. Moreover, I liked that the office was very open and buzzing, as well as the fact that there was no strict hierarchy in the office and trainees were sharing an office with a partner.
Your Impressions
The presentations and case studies were very detailed and thought provoking, and the ADR workshop was a fun way to learn about mediation. The chance to shadow a trainee was very helpful and allowed me to properly find out about the culture of the firm outside of lecture-style discussions. Furthermore, the social event at Flight Club in the evening was very fun and I was able to make good friends and connections.
Yes
The application question asking about something you are interested in is a way to make yourself stand out and demonstrate your unique qualities or interests. This need not be law related, so I would advise applicants to be honest and structure their answer well to make their interests clear.
