Overview
Learn about the firm, its culture and some major deals. Finished with trainee shadowing which was incredibly insightful, learning about the actual day-to-day life of a trainee.
Skills
Didn't learn any new skills per say, but achieved a much better understanding of the firm and how it operates.
Business Insight
Very interesting to see the many different departments of HSF. Opportunities to talk to representatives of each gave ideas of work and what aptitudes would work best where.
Culture
Going in I was oblivious to the culture of different law firms, holding the belief that they were all the same or very similar. Was pleasantly surprised at how fun all the trainees were and the discussions regarding the culture differences between firms.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it thoroughly. I remember coming back and gushing about the insight to my university friends. To the extent that my friends who attended the same insight the following week felt cheated because I talked it up too much.
Yes
Regarding the question about introducing something personal on the application. I suggest using this to something out of left field, demonstrating your personality, instead of something which neatly fits into the field of law such as a business transaction.
