Overview
I sat in the Tax department for 2 weeks, so I got to work with this group on their matters. I also got to talk to numerous people at the firm and understand the work of teh different departments.
Skills
I've learnt so much about the skills needed to excel in commercial law. I definitely became better at pitching, presenting, drafting, legal research and networking.
Business Insight
I feel like I got a genuine insight into the career options available, not just in the different practice areas of commercial law, but also other roles at Linklaters, such as Knowledge Lawyers, Innovation Lawyers, the Pro Bono department and the in-house LegalTech startup, CreateiQ.
Culture
It was such an amazingly supportive environment. We each got principals and trainee buddies, who were there every step of the way to answer our questions. It became obvious that the firm has such a collaborative culture where everyone is happy to take time to explain things to others and everyone wants to see others succeed.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time here, I learnt so much and I got a great insight into how the firm operates and whether this is the right workplace for me.
Yes
Do your research and try to speak to people beforehand to understand what sets Linklaters apart. Most people I reached out to (without an introduction) were so friendly and ready to help and there are so many things in which Linklaters is unique, so make sure you emphasise why this resonates with you.
