Overview
There were two main parts to the vacation scheme. Firstly, the scheduled sessions, events, socials and assessed tasks. Secondly, the opportunity to sit in a practice area with a dedicated principal and trainee buddy who provided exposure to the day-to-day work. Overall, there were lots of opportunities to network, learn about the firm and its offerings, and gain exposure to the actual work undertaken in your respective practice area.
Skills
I have become more confident in networking situations and more knowledgeable about the day-to-day tasks completed by trainees and other fee-earners at the firm.
Business Insight
It was very interesting having multiple opportunities to both have a first chance at trainee level tasks and follow-up with discussions to understand what I had done correctly, but also where I may have gone slightly wrong. I now have a firmer understanding of the actual role of a trainee solicitor at the firm.
Culture
The culture was a standout part of the vacation scheme for me personally. Everyone I interacted with was extremely approachable and more than willing to answer questions I had. Certain people even went out of their way to introduce themselves to me. Overall, the culture at the firm was great.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on the scheme. Everyone (other vacation schemers and staff) were very easy to get along with and this made it far easier to maximise what I got out of the scheme. The scheme was scheduled very well to encompass a mix of independent and firm-led experiences. There were also countless opportunities to network with people across the firm.
