Overview
During the scheme, we had multiple presentations and department overviews, as well as social events and research tasks.
Skills
Yes - I feel I got really immersed into the environment and culture of a larger commercial law firm. It helped me understand the nuances of being in a corporate and client facing role. In terms of skills, I developed soft skills such as communication and time-management, as well as hard skills such as research and drafting.
Business Insight
I feel that we had a true deep-dive into the various roles (from trainee to partner) as well as the different practice areas that Latham specializes in. It helped me ponder on my long term career aspirations, as well as potential career paths within the legal industry.
Culture
The Latham culture was refreshingly relaxed and non-hierarchical. I felt that everyone was genuine kind and approachable, which led to a positive and unexpectedly humane environment whereby colleagues are also friends.
Your Impressions
I felt that I now have a genuine understanding of the work that Latham does and the culture of the firm. I particularly enjoyed not feeling that I was being "sold" something, but that people and the firm as a whole trailed me with honesty and respect.
Yes
I think getting to know the firm before applying was crucial, so I would recommend speaking to Latham employees and attending events.
