The Role
I found it really worthwhile and interesting.
I was regularly thanked for my hardwork, made to feel welcome and included and felt like part of a team.
I was never left to worry. I had support whenever I needed it from everyone. You could ask anyone in the lab or office for help and they would bend over backwards to be supportive.
There were days where I found I had nothing to do, and other days where I was rushed off my feet, but then thats life.
I was made responsible for a number of assays giving analytical support to members of my own team as well as those from different departments.
I'll take a lot from this experience which will help me in my future aims of a PhD.
The Company
Some days were quiet, and often people were stressful about deadlines but people are generally very friendly with a wealth of opportunities to socialise.
At GSK the organisation was very good with only a few mishaps at the beginning. The company they use to hire us (SRG) however were very difficult to get hold of, made numerous mistakes with my cotnract and would make changes to our pay without any communication.
A number of people invested time and effort in my training and development.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a numbr of opportunities to stay with GSK, and though in the fture I could see myself working there, I believe that I should take my experiences and move on, build on them further and then come back later in life.
The Culture
I was always included.
The cost of living is generally low, but socialising isn't cheap. With London so close, but on a less than London wage, I found this aspect rather challenging.
The nightlife in Stevenage is poor, but its the people not the place that make it a good experience. London is close enough to make a good night out every now and then...
I ran out of time most weeks to fit it all in.
