Overview
My role is a management trainee where you can then progress into a management assistant, assistant manager, branch manager etc. My day to day role varies so much with tasks including marketing, customer service, sales. Some of my management tasks include cost control, profits, growth, account management and employee development. Overall this is a great placement for anyone wanting to gain experience across a wide range of all the business sectors and with a company who promotes from within.
Skills
The main skill I had no previous experience in that I have been able to develop massively during this placement would be sales skills. You are given advice and guidance with sales from the get go all the way through your placement and you have sales based targets that each individual is judged off. I have also covered marketing, building relationships with accounts, boosted my customer service skills and a developed a wide range of other skills.
Responsibilities
During my placement I was given several different captaincy roles which allowed me to learn and then specialise across a range of different areas. My first few captaincy roles were to do with admin work which really helped me get to grips with the systems used at Enterprise. I was then made SFL captain which allowed me to oversee how we were doing in relation to customer service. Most recently I was made claims captain which involves overseeing any damage claims made on vehicles and ensuring that these are repaired within a certain time frame.
Support & Guidance
During my placement i received a good level of support and guidance from a range of people in the company. To begin the placement you attend a few days of online training calls which provide support from the talent acquisition team. I was also given a mentor who I had regular contact with during my placement which allowed me to sit down one to one with someone from a different area of the business and discuss ideas / concerns.
Culture
The company culture at enterprise is really good. They have a huge focus on diversity, equity and inclusion with a range of groups / activities in place to support the improvement of these areas. During my placement I was part of the female focus group where females in the area regularly met up to do fun activities such as bowling / women in leadership conferences. I also helped with the Christmas shoebox appeal. Enterprise encourage new ideas to improve the culture / helping the local community.
Your Impressions
I found my placement to be extremely valuable in terms of developing new skills across a wide range of different business areas especially with a limited amount of work experience during my first 2 years of uni due to covid. I have managed to network with some really helpful people and have learnt some invaluable skills during my internship. I am looking forward to being able to utilise these skills in the future and seeing what opportunities are out there.
Yes
For anyone who is looking to apply to enterprise rent a car I would highly recommend it. During the interview process the key thing to remember is to just be yourself as it is not just a way of seeing if enterprise think you would be suitable for the job but also to see if you think the job would suit you as well. It is a great way to gain a wide range of experience.
