    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work as an Civil Engineering industrial placement student. At the moment, most of my job involves carrying out hydraulics calculations, flood risk assessments, handling and producing data sheets and interacting with suppliers. In the past months, I have also done quite a bit of document control and have written a few documents myself to provide to clients.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learned lots of new skills. Most notably I'd say I've improved a lot in terms of my ability to use various software such as Revit, AutoCAD and Civil3D, as well as learning how to use Excel more competently, to improve the efficiency of my work. I have also improved my report writing skills, and been able to apply my hydraulic and geotechnical knowledge has helped consolidate my ability in these areas.
