Overview
My role on my industrial placement at Mott MacDonald was part of the utilities team, I would help resolve design clashes with other disciplines like drainage and water. Also part of my role was to communicate with the modelling team if there are mistakes and issues in the designs of the utilities.
Skills
I have definitely improved my technical drawing skills while on placement. I believe the biggest skill I have developed is my communication skills. The role is team based and I was in constant communication with my team to find solutions.
Responsibilities
I was definitely given a lot of responsibility during my placement, After completing my training and getting to know the project I was working on, I felt the work I was doing was important and had a real affect on the project deadline.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of guidance from my line manager and my colleagues, I was always confident and comfortable to ask for help as everyone was approachable and friendly.
Culture
The culture of the company is great, What makes it great is the people. Everyone is very friendly and approachable. I always felt comfortable to ask for guidance or speak to people.
Your Impressions
I'm really enjoying my placement, I have learnt a lot and also the work I am doing is important.
Yes
My biggest advice is if you join Mott MacDonald, is to be patient as you might not understand everything straight away and does require time to get caught up and also if you need any support, do ask straight away everyone would be willing to help.
