    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • Two days of virtual training, involving information sessions on the culture, structure and divisions in Deutsche Bank. The following three days were in the London office where we had the opportunity to work shadow, attend divisional talks, hear from panels, engage in team-building activities and meet our allocated buddies from the Bank. A highlight was the acting class which taught us how to interact effectively with a manager based on their communication style.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout the experience, I have developed confidence speaking to employees from the bank. The interactive role play sessions pushed me outside of my comfort zone and taught me how to better communicate with different managers.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • There was a lot of insight into the different areas of career development within Deutsche Bank. The rotation of 3 sessions with Origination and Advisory, International Private Bank and Internal Audit allowed me to ask questions directly to employees and hear about their day-to-day responsibilities. Additionally, through the buddy system, I had a one hour chat with an employee from Corporate Bank. However it was based on luck which divisions you were allocated to.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone at Deutsche Bank was very friendly and kind. The HR staff was also quite cool and authentic, their attitude didn’t feel forcefully peppy and positive like at other programmes. Some of the speakers were really cool, engaging and inspiring and it seeming like generally most people enjoyed their jobs. There were a few speakers who were underwhelming and slightly uninteresting, but that could be because I am not interested in their business area.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Attending the Winchester and Canary Wharf office was really exciting. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of being in person, getting to network with the employees and engage in activities whilst getting to know the other interns. The first 2 virtual days were very long and draining. There was too much information and many things I already knew as it was meant to be a catch up for students from non finance or economic related degrees.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deutsche Bank
  • Deutsche Bank is very focused on inclusion, collaboration and have strong internal mobility. Make sure to include their core values in your interview answers. My telephone interview was competency based so prepare different scenarios using the STAR method. Make the most out of the internship by asking burning questions and intentionally networking to figure out which division you would like to apply for a summer internship, if you plan to convert.
