Overview
Various ad-hoc tasks to do with data analytics, reporting and automation. Includes using r for data analytics, automating tasks using excel including work with VBA. Work is mixed between the fixed and mobile networks of Virgin Media O2.
Skills
Learnt VBA and some SQL, hugely developed my existing r skills (had a very basic grasp from uni). Also developed my competency with Excel. Furthermore learning involved soft skills such as stakeholder management, time management and networking opportunities
Responsibilities
Yes - much of the work is related to key projects that are being done by the company such as the rollout of the full fibre rollout
Support & Guidance
Had weekly 121 calls with my manager, as well as a weekly team call. I also had a 'buddy' who is someone on my team that I could come to with any questions that I didn't want to ask my manager, as well as a mentor who was in the wider organisation who I could come to with any questions about career development etc.
Culture
Very positive work culture. Encouraged to avoid burnout, not overwork and take time off. There are 5 volunteering days per year and a lot of encouragement to take them. There is also a large emphasis on personal development, we are given up to 2 hours a week to do non work-related training. There is a platform available to do this with courses on many different topics
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the majority of the work I had to do and felt that it was a great learning opportunity
Yes
Take time to research the company and its current work to have interesting things to bring up at interview. Also consider what role you want in particular as it is a general technology placement - if you have something in mind then make sure that comes through in interview
