Overview
My role involved typically a lot of Cost Modelling, Analytics, Contracting as well as Purchase Order Creation/Buying Channels. Some wider tasks included working on Category Strategies as well as RFP's and projects related to refining Procurement Processes. I was also given the opportunity to undergo work in Finance (Financial Control)
Skills
I have been able to develop better interpersonal skills and confidence in the workplace which has helped my development greatly. Furthermore being able to gain a wider understanding of how a large organisation operates and the culture has been instrumental in pushing me to become more accustomed to working in such an environment. On a more technical level, using my analytical skills and critical thinking to make calculated decisions that affect business outcomes has been very valuable.
Responsibilities
Yes, in between handover of line management, my workload spiked dramatically which was a great challenge to see what my capabilities were. I will be able to learn how to adapt to increased responsibility in the future more quickly as a result
Support & Guidance
I received great levels of training throughout the course of my placement which was integral to making sure I was able to learn and develop as much as possible. Designated mentors were always available to help as well as managers. In addition to this, there were numerous early talent projects that were designed specifically to support our growth.
Culture
It was very warm and relaxed. Everyone was open to conversation and this helped me onboard much faster and feel comfortable in the workplace.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity and I am very glad I undertook this year. It was always fun to keep learning and support initiatives/projects that have a positive impact on public health. Also, the out of office activities were fun and memorable.
Yes
Put in the necessary effort to understand what the function of the business you are applying to supports as this will naturally help shape your passion for working and contributing to the company which will be appreciated. Furthermore, try to develop an understanding of the types of pharmaceuticals, oncology treatments, and vaccines GSK produces as it will help contextualise all the great skills you have in order to make them applicable to GSK
