Overview
Assisting senior engineers with their daily design tasks. Includes a lot of checking calculations/outputs from analysis software and gathering data.
Skills
I learnt a few software packages that I didn't know before and gained appreciation/insight into large project development.
Responsibilities
I was trusted with key data analysis and organised social events, however I was never asked to present anything or lead any teams.
Support & Guidance
A lot, every time I had a question there was somebody happy to answer. The grads were the most helpful as they've been in my shoes not that long ago.
Culture
Much more relaxed than expected. Many people dress casual, it's possible to work from home most of the week.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed most of it, however it seemed like the team and my project managers had nothing for me to do at times. There was barely any pressure on me whatsoever and I almost wish I was put under a bit more. I think it's a great experience to have and Im glad I did it, but I felt left to myself a bit too much.
Yes
Choose the division you're applying to wisely. Buildings and Cities will be very different to Energy.
