Overview
I am currently on placement at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), working in the Project Management Excellence (PME) team as a project analyst, focused on improving the efficiency of pipeline drug delivery. As a PPM CoE Project Analyst my role involves supporting the development, implementation, and management of Project Management (PM) methodologies such as processes, business rules, practices to support the project managers and the project teams. My day to day job involves team meetings and interacting with the pipeline project managers.
Skills
The three main skills I have learnt during my industrial placement are: Time management: learning to balance my time between completing work projects, meetings and completing independent learning. Networking: it is important to get involved in events outside of day to day work. For example I regularly attend networking events which is a great way to meet people from other areas of the business and learn about their roles. Presentation skills: this is a very valuable, transferable skill that I have developed through presenting within my team and to larger audiences of project managers.
Responsibilities
I would say I started to gain more responsibility as my placement progressed, after I had undergone the necessary onboarding and training during the first 3 months. At around the 6 month mark, I had more responsibility and started leading my own projects.
Support & Guidance
I received a good level of support from my line manager and team
Culture
A really nice company culture and atmosphere . Everyone was really friendly and helpful, especially being early talent. There was also a great work/life balance and social aspect to working on site. Also good flexibility in working in person and remotely.
Your Impressions
Overall, I enjoyed my placement as I had great opportunities to network, lead projects, develop my soft skills and undertake formal training
Yes
I would make sure that you apply early and are familiar with the job description before the interview. I would also recommend preparing for the assessment center by have some prepared example of situations where you have demonstrated skills such as communication and team working.
