    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • PwC's Social Mobility programme aims to improve social mobility and diversity in the workplace by providing support and opportunities for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds. The programme includes a range of initiatives such as mentoring, skills development workshops, internships, and graduate roles. The role mainly involved work shadowing of an associate in the Tax department. I attended meetings, had-one-to-one meetings with senior managers and really got to know the social side of development. It was really nice experiencing actual work that colleagues do a day to a day basis.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I gained knowledge about various tax regulations, policies, and procedures. They can learn about different types of taxes, such as corporate tax, indirect tax, and personal tax. I worked on case studies, financial analysis exercises, and other projects to develop my analytical skills. Tax work-shadowing helped me to improve their communication skills by allowing me to communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner. Participants can learn how to write reports, make presentations, and work with clients. I learnt how to collaborate with others, share ideas, and work together towards a common goal. I also learnt how to manage their time effectively by working on time-sensitive tasks during the work-shadowing week.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • PwC offers a range of roles across different service lines, including audit and assurance, consulting, deals, tax, and technology. Each of these roles requires a different skillset and provides different experiences. This helped me to learn more about these roles by providing an opportunity to observe professionals in action, ask questions, and gain insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of different roles.I had the opportunity to work with professionals in a particular service line, such as tax. I observed how the team works, learn about the key skills required for the role, and gained a better understanding of the tasks involved. I also had the opportunity to attend training sessions and meet with other professionals at the firm to learn about different service lines.
