Overview
My role involves several responsibilities primarily during month end process such as preparing monthly regulatory returns for RCI Bank like BOE statistical returns, LCR, PRA 110 and treasury assets reporting. Quarterly returns such as COREP ALMM and Large Exposures were also done by me. Any variances in the figures reported are investigated through liasoning with other departments and providing commentary. Other responsibilities include maintaining the regulatory reporting calendar, reconciling data from various sources to ensure consistency and assisting the head of regulatory reporting with any ad-hoc tasks.
Skills
I have learnt a lot of new soft and hard skills. My excel skills in particular have significantly improved as I have greatly knowledge of formulas such as V-lookups, SUMIFs, index and match formulas etc. Furthermore, I have also improved my problem solving analytical and attention to detail skills through analysing variances and doing commentary. My team working skills have also been solidified through collaborating with other team members and learning from their knowledge and experience.
Responsibilities
I was given a significant level of responsibility as all of the monthly and quarterly reports I did were submitted to the regulators such as the PRA(Prudential Regulatory Authority). The complexity of the reports were gradually increased and I was asked to complete the quarterly COREP returns through collaborating with other departments such as treasury. Furthermore, I also responded to many targeted data requests of regulators such as BOE through giving my commentary mentioned in the workings.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance from the regulatory reporting team and other departments I worked with such as treasury. I was never scared to ask questions to any one in the team as everyone was very supportive and kind. The team always encouraged and motivated me to help me realise my full potential. The HR team was always very welcoming from Day 1 and encouraged me to share any concerns/complaints I might have with my team.
Culture
The company culture was very welcoming and inclusive as they were wide variety of events to welcome us in the company and bond with other interns such as treasure hunts, barbeques, football etc. The HR team always celebrated events such as coronation of King Charles allowed us to bond with others over some good food and drinks. Lastly, office dress code was very casual and allowed me to get comfortable in my working environment to work optimally.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement as I have been given lots of opportunities to develop my skills and experiences along with getting to know people from different departments and learning from them. The placement has given me clarity on what I want to do with my career. I have also enjoyed going to company socials and bonding with other interns. Lastly, I have made great friends for life that I will look forward to meet in the future.
